John Phan is the Founder and Principal of Campanile Group. John began his public finance career over 20 years ago at an underwriting firm. John made the transition to become a municipal advisor to his clients in 2014 when he saw the differing and wide range of terms and interest rates for clients with similar credit qualities.
Over his 20+ year career, John completed over 100 financing transactions totaling more than $2 billion, including debt financings such as revenue bonds, general obligation bonds, lease revenue bonds, certificates of participation, pension obligation bonds, special tax Mello-Roos bonds, and redevelopment bonds. John’s notable projects have ranged from “AAA” rated pension obligations bonds to non-rated start-up school financings.
John’s experience at an underwriting firm considerably impacts his ability to save his current municipal advisory clients money on financing costs. He has saved millions of dollars of interest cost for his clients based on his knowledge of the capital markets, in-depth understanding of the steps involved in the bond interest-rate setting process (“pricing”), expertise with structuring bond cash flows, experience managing the investor outreach process, and familiarity with all types of debt instruments.
John holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Berkeley. His professional registrations include the Municipal Advisor Representative (Series 50) and Municipal Advisor Principal (Series 54).
